When friends ask me how I know which the right weight loss foods are, I always say: “I learnt when I refused to install air conditioning.”

It sounds like a joke, but it’s actually a butterfly-effect like thing. Where I live in Germany, summers can be hot (no, really), and we don’t have air conditioning in our house so, during the hottest weeks of the year I just didn’t feel like turning on the stove to cook. The consequence was that, in order to eat, we had to go out for a pizza or an ice cream, three, four times a week, changing (for the worse), my weight loss food plan for the week.

We still don’t have air conditioning, and I still don’t feel like cooking when temperature is too high, but this has become an excuse to eat the best food for weight loss you can have: raw vegetables. Besides, not eating out every week has stopped the weight loss of my purse, which I prefer fat.

Of course there is no need to become a crudist, eating cooked food is important if you want a varied diet, which always means healthy diet. On the other hand though, we should eat more raw vegetables, they are the best healthy weight loss food, and work great in a natural detox diet, and for many reasons:

  • it’s low calorie with a high satiating power
  • the nutritional elements, like minerals, vitamin C, and B group, enzymes, and many proteins, are not altered by the cooking process
  • it’s more satisfying because it has more vivid colors and taste than cooked food

You may laugh at the last one, but the non-nutritional qualities of raw food should not be underestimated. Eating non-cooked stuff symbolizes a return to simplicity and has a tremendous calming power. Lack of serenity, I will never repeat that enough, is a great obstacle in any weight loss diet.

If we want to take the opportunity to make more room for this healthy weight loss food, we will have to decrease the intake of carbohydrates like pasta and rice, legumes, potatoes, and of all the food that needs to be cooked, like meat and seafood. In spite of this changes, the choice will still be wide.

As a dressing, we want to use lemon or orange juices, or yogurt or wine vinegar. They are all acid liquids, tasty and will also work as antiseptic.

So, even if you don’t have to become a vegetarian, now you know: to lose weight fast, raw vegetables are the kings and queens of weight loss foods.
