The best exercise for weight loss: walking. It all started one morning when the public transport started an unannounced strike. Finding a taxi was impossible so, silently cursing all bus drivers, I was forced to walk to work.

By now I have probably led you to think that I had like ten kilometers to go. I’m a bit ashamed to say they were just three, roughly half an hour walking. The thing is, a that time I didn’t have a clue of how important workout is in any weight loss plan.

Anyway, by the time I got to work, I was blessing the bus drivers for making me discover this effective weight loss exercise. I’ve never taken a bus to work since then, hail or rain or snow. The best thing about that is that it’s relaxing; I don’t know you, but I’m not a morning person. Starting my day elbowing my way to the bus door was very stressful and of course I only noticed when I didn’t have to do it anymore.

Even if there are still skepticals around, walking has officially entered the club of weight loss exercises, as a good cardio/muscle toning alternative to running. A 50 minutes brisk walk four times a week can make you lose eight pounds a year. When this activity comes with a weight loss diet, it you could even lose 10 pounds.

All you have to do is to keep a high pace (a pedometer watch would be a great help) and walk for at last 45 minutes a day, walking can substitute for running or other workouts you can only do in a gym. This means saving money for the gym with a free weight loss exercise, and if you’re lucky enough to live fairly close to work, you will also save money for the bus ticket. Not too bad at all… and if you have some money to throw in, you can always do it indoor, as there are tons of affordable treadmills around

If you live in a city with a good public transport, you’re certainly lucky. On the other hand though, comfortable cities are a “danger” for all exercises for weight loss: buses, undergrounds, elevators, escalators taking us everywhere without having to move a muscle.

There are many more weight loss exercises, but walking is a good way to start a natural weight loss: easy, freee and effective.
